First, I want to note that I used a random date generator to pick this day. I didn't want my conscious or unconscious biases to pick a day when I was a "good" diabetic. The day selected was Friday, November 10, 2023. This date meant nothing to me but my calendar, journal, and Freestyle Libre app (this tells me what my blood sugars are doing all day) reminded me that it was a special day. Here is what went down (note, I left corporate America in October so I've had more spare time lately):
Woke up, took my long-acting insulin and short-acting insulin to cover my morning beverage - also took my thyroid medication
Turned on my HappyLight (I have SAD) and heating pad
Read a bit
Got out of bed, fed the dogs, and made a matcha latte
Did some tidying and other household stuff
Met a friend for lunch - we had a blast and talked for hours
Went home, hung out with and fed the dogs, and had dinner around 6
Watched Nyad (one of my favorite movies of 2023)
Made tea and journaled before bed, got in more heating pad time for my back/neck/shoulders (plus it feels good during the colder months)
My blood sugars were running low most of the day (not sure why) so I had lots of snacks
All while wearing my favorite shacket from a thrift store
What made this day special? Lunch with a friend and Nyad - I had noted in my journal the night before that I was feeling drained and sad because I wasn't sure about what my future would look like. These two things helped me to turn my mood around. I realized how fortunate to be where I am right now even though the future is unknown. In reality, it's somewhat unknown for us all - so go do the things that make you feel good.
